Castillo Monumento Colomares

n 1987, Dr. Esteban Martín Martín began this unique work in an improvised manner, and with the help of two masons, he created Colomares in seven years of artisanal work with brick, stone and cement. Thanks to his knowledge of art, history and architecture, Dr. Martín was able to shape this work at will and make it a "one-of-a-kind" work because of the way it narrates the discovery of the Americas in a stone-like manner.

This is a monumental castle whose stone tells the achievement of the discovery of a new world, mistakenly called AMERICA. It was Columbus, with his great faith, who presented to the Catholic princes his plan to travel west to reach the Indies. That was his dream.

The three ships Columbus used on his voyage are depicted, the Niña, the Pinta and the Santa María in this castle monument. La Niña at the top of the building, under the arch of La Rabida, the monastery that sheltered COLUMBUS when he arrived from Portugal. La Pinta, on the facade, this is the nave of the Pinzones brothers, with the horse Pegasus, which supports it. The Santa María, isolated from the other two, because this ship suffered an accident and sank on Christmas Day, in Santo Domingo. The crew members, who were about 39 sailors, remained on the island and did not return to Spain, as they died at the hands of the natives. COLUMBUS died after making four voyages, and in the Colomares Monument Castle we have presented a mausoleum with a beautiful Gothic rose window. It is his fifth journey to eternity, and his remains rest no one knows where and no one knows for sure where he was born. It was Spain and in particular Andalusia that played a leading role in that discovery that undoubtedly changed the world, according to some for the better and according to others for the worse. But it happened and here they tell us and testify to it the stones of the Colomares Monument Castle.
