Júzcar
Málaga · Nature & walking

Júzcar in the region of Andalusia is without doubt one of the most special villages in Spain. Indeed, the village is also called the blue smurf village of Andalusia (El Pueblo Pitufo) and why that is you should really come and see for yourself.
The Smurfs Village of Spain Until 2011, Júzcar was an ordinary village with whitewashed houses just like other villages in the area. However, this changed when film company Sony strictured the village to promote the movie The Smurfs 3D (The Smurfs). The white village was transformed into a blue village - La Aldea Azul. For a long time it was promised to paint the village white again after the filming of the movie, but the blue buildings proved to attract tourists from all over the world so the village decided to remain the blue Smurfs village forever. When I talk about a blue village I really mean blue. Not only the houses, but also the stores, the church and other structures were painted completely blue. And this is still the case today. You really imagine yourself in the Smurfs' world for a moment here. There are stories going around that in 2017 all Smurfs - paintings and statues - had to be removed from the village because of a dispute with Belgian cartoonist Pierre Culliford. Well it could be that everything has changed since 2017, but we didn't notice any of this. You can still see and feel from everything that Júzcar is the smurf village.
Is Júzcar only fun for and with children? You may think that visiting Júzcar is mainly fun with children, but nothing could be further from the truth. I can tell you that we thoroughly enjoyed all the special places in the village. You can enjoy beautiful views of the valley, but the special thing is that every street is completely different. So you not only see blue buildings, but also spot different statues and images of Smurfs and other street art.
Hiking trails: throughout the region you will find several trails. Some go through beautiful surroundings such as the Torcal de los Riscos and the Castañar de Júzcar.
Adventure activities: the place to visit is the Sima del Diablo, a gorge created by the erosion of a river. Here you can go canyoning to get your adrenaline pumping with professional equipment.
