El Charco del Moro is located in the last stretch of the Barranco de Las Buitreras. This gorge was carved for thousands of years by the Guadiaro River into Jurassic-era limestone.

The ravine is about 2 km long and its walls reach a maximum height of 100 meters. The Charco del Moro has a length of just over 150 meters, except for the first few meters it covers in its entirety and the water is cold because of an underground spring with very cold water about 100 meters from the shore.

The route begins in El Colmenar, a town belonging to the municipality of Cortes de la Frontera. You can reach it from Gaucín via the A-405 highway towards San Roque. A few kilometers later, you turn right onto the MA-9300. Once in El Colmenar, you follow the signs indicating "Sendero de Las Buitreras."
